Dear Members of SIDG,
I have great pleasure in inviting you to our VIth Congress of Dialectology and Geolinguistics, September 14th to 18th, 2009, University of Maribor, Slomškov trg 15, SI-2000 Maribor, Slovenia.
Areas of topics focus upon new methodological and technical approaches to language geography, dialect literacy, dialect dynamics between standardization and dialectalization, emergent languages, language and dialect contact, sprachbund, linguistic implications of globalization, and diacronic dialectology. Reports on linguistic atlases and other research projects are welcome, as well as additional areas of topics, as suggested by participants.
At the same time, I invite you to the VIth Extraordinary and the XIth Ordinary Assembly of SIDG on September 18th, 2009, starting at 10:30 a.m. at the venue of the Congress at the above address. The agenda of both Assemblies (taking place one after the other) can be found in this Bulletin.
On September 18th, 2009, some time will be reserved for a special session of
the Atlas Linguarum Europae.
All interested dialectologists and geolinguists are invited to submit abstracts of approximately 200 words in length. The name, title, institution, area, e-mail and surface-mail address should be indicated, as well as the area of the topic and the language to be used for oral presentation (English, French, German, Italian, Russian, Slovene, Spanish). The abstract should be written in the language of the presentation with summary in English (or optionally with summary in another language, if English is the language of the presentation). The scheduled time permitted for each oral presentation will be 15 minutes, with 5 minutes for questions and discussion. Double slots (30 + 10 minutes) can be allotted to presentations of special interest on the recommendation of the evaluation committee. All abstracts will be screened and evaluated.
Further instructions for the submission of abstracts and other information can be found on the congress website:
http://www.sidgcongress.si/
The deadline for submission of abstracts is March 31st, 2009.
Information on the congress fee, congress activities (there will also be an excursion, a congress dinner, and a reception) and accommodation can be found on the website.
We are very grateful to Professor Dr. Mihaela Koletnik and her team for kindly making all these arrangements. Please inform your colleagues about the SIDG Congress. Also non-members are most welcome to participate actively!
I hope to see many of you in September in Maribor.
